Hi! I am independent textile designer Crystal Walen of Crystal W Design - an illustration and surface design brand. You can find my designs in lots of places including: Hallmark, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Elle Décor, Spoonflower, Society6, Etsy, and many more.
My relaxed, nature-based watercolor designs often feature fresh florals, modern basics, and a vintage vibe. Each collection includes freehand watercolor work, digital design, as well as delicate detail brought to life with bold colors.
I developed a love for fashion and textiles as a child while treasure hunting at yard sales with my grandma to find printed fabrics and silhouettes to tailor to my own style. I further developed my skills studying textile design at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where I learned about sustainable textiles and digital printing.
Following completion of my degree from RISD, I worked for 15+ years designing for major national retail brands and had the opportunity to be mentored by some fantastic colleagues which allowed me to learn the business of sales trends, and how to create designs that sell.
In 2015, I had the opportunity to start my own brand, and Crystal W Design was born. From the beginning, my business grew, from enthusiasts to licensing partners. I am grateful that my artwork brings joy and opportunity to so many businesses and individuals.
I am a New England native, currently enjoying the mountain life working from my home office alongside my family. I find daily inspiration in the flora and fauna of the mountains, the ocean, and in building a community of creative entrepreneurs.
